Official synopsis

Who is Karim D.? A committed young writer on the verge of success or his alias, Arthur Rambo, whose hateful messages get exhumed from social networks?

The programmer’s eye

Laurent Cantet has always stood out with the finesse of a cinema that outlines the idea of a permanent struggle, working around the recurring theme of the influence of the social body over physical bodies. The incarnation of Karim D. (an implicit reference to the Mehdi Meklat case) allows for an incisive work on the contradictory injunctions that circulate around the Arab body. Without relieving the guilt of its subject, the film demonstrates that what is at stake media-wise is less linked to the denunciation of hatred than to an identity and social call to order. "Arthur Rambo" is a thrilling and fascinating political thriller, driven by a virtuous form and its relentless actor Rabah Naït Oufella. — Pierre Guidez
