Official synopsis

October 2015. French Customs seized seven tons of cannabis in the heart of the capital. On the same day, Hubert Antoine, a former mole with a hazy past, contacts Stéphane Vilner, who works as a journalist for Libération. He claims he’s able to demonstrate the existence of the State's drug trafficking led by Jacques Billard, a media figure and high-ranking French police officer. At first suspicious, the young journalist finally dives into the investigation, which leads him to the darkest corners of the Republic.

The programmer’s eye

Thierry de Peretti explores a dark affair in the mysteries of drug squads as he unveils his narrative. He questions the construction of a scoop on the one hand, and the coercive power of the state over drug trafficking on the other. By giving the character of Roschdy Zem a central place, the film questions truths. All the exchanges and circulation of words obey the regime of confrontation, in the judicial or journalistic worlds. “Undercover” is a brilliant reflection on mediatization and instrumentalization, which invents a rhythmic and a striking visual treatment. — Victor Courgeon
