Official synopsis

Hedwig is the most amazing and unknown rock star in the world. With her group, she criss-crosses the United States, from seedy restaurants to shopping mall halls. It's a crazy and excessive journey, but beyond the excess, it's an odyssey of the heart seeking its other half.

The programmer’s eye

For his first mischief on the big screen, John Cameron Mitchell explores his very intimate musical comedy booklet in which he holds the title role. In a world of viscous gloss, an utterly sincere drama is taking place, following Hedwig's moods. The film’s perfect title designates the rock band, the superhero duo and the indelible mark of its heroine’s transidentity. It gradually takes shape in all its beauty and complexity, notably through a brilliant musical comedy scene in which the stigmata of Hedwig are revealed. It's punk for real.
