Official synopsis
Using the archives of the television news, the film looks back at the 2005 riots in France, which were triggered by the death of two young people pursued by the police.
The programmer’s eye
A traumatic event at the origin of the "2005 Riots", the death of Zyed and Bouna continues to question contemporary documentary production. Virgil Vernier offers his own reading through the archives of television news broadcast on TF1 back then. Freed from their sensationalist paratext, the images seem to breathe, open up to other stories and words in a new relationship to time. The finesse of the editing and mixing thus skilfully questions the production of media content and political staging, finding a powerful resonance in our present situation.

Since 2001, Virgil Vernier's films have mixed fiction, documentary and mythology. Among them are “Thermidor” (2009), “Pandore” (2010), “Orléans” (2012), “Mercuriales” (2014) and “Sophia Antipolis” (2018). His films have been selected at numerous international festivals including Cannes, Locarno and Berlin.
