Arnaud is my little brother. One day I realized that he had grown up. He was born where people have no choices and he is trying to be what he should have been. Free.

“Soy Libre” is first and foremost characterised by the attentive gaze of a sister on her brother, whose face is telling of the contained violence linked to a difficult teenagehood. Refusing to be stuck in some kind of determination, that very brother who is filmed becomes the one who films: by documenting his escape to Spain, he takes part in the filmmaking as well as in the conduct of his life. The film’s tour de force is to go beyond the intimate narrative to witness an explosive political situation, bringing into question the loneliness of a meal and the world’s violence. “Soy libre”, in the language that this character chose for himself, means “I am free”.

Biography and Filmography
Laure Portier was born in 1983 in Deux-Sèvres. After a Bachelor's Degree in French in Toulouse and a year at ESAV, she joined INSAS in Brussels in the Image section. After graduating, she became a camera assistant and worked on fictional feature films. In 2019, her first short film, “Dans l'œil du chien”, won the Short Film Prize at the Cinéma du Réel festival. “Soy Libre” is his first feature film.
