Official synopsis
Stella is going through her final year in high school. But she couldn’t care less! She’s more interested in enjoying crazy nights at the Bains Douches, a famous Parisian 80s club. And there’s André who’s so good at dancing… Yet, that very year, everything is going to change for her, and she knows it.
The programmer’s eye
A sequel to “Stella”, which dealt with the integration of a teenager who grew up in a café into a bourgeois Parisian high school, “Stella in Love” is the other side of the coin. A tale of emancipation set against the backdrop of a school where the destiny of every student from a good family is set, the film follows the trajectory of a young woman who is a class defector. Sylvie Verheyde explores the nightclub as a space of freedom and encounters, where the impulses of youth can invent the fiction of romances and their identity in the making. This energising film offers the ideal atmosphere for the FIFIB’s closing ceremony.

Biography and Filmography
After two award-winning short films, “Entre chiens et loups” (1993) et “La Maison verte” (1995), Sylvie Verheyde directed her first feature film, “Un Frère”, in 1997; it was selected at the Festival de Cannes the following year. “Stella”, her third film, was presented at the Venice Film Festival in 2008. It was followed by “Confession of a Child of the Century” (2012) with Pete Doherty and Charlotte Gainsbourg – which entered the “Un Certain Regard” selection the same year –, “Sex Doll” (2016), then “Madame Claude” (2019) with Garance Marillier and Roschdy Zem. In competition at Locarno this year, “Stella in Love” will be screened as part of the Closing Ceremony of the FIFIB.
