OFFICIAL SHORT FILMS COMPETITION

Concordance of time

Films are reflections of their time, accurate or anamorphic reflections, realistic or fantasized, but still images that tell about our time. In contact with a period pessimists may call grayish, 8 films in the short film competition reveal a range of hues and shades, from deep black to bright pink. Each of them offers to open a possible horizon by taking different paths: bereavement, violence of relationships, questioning the filial bond, unfailing love, guilt and redemption, laughter and tears, wandering and immobility. Whatever the field, the goal is to give birth to those emotions that make us human. This selection has the ambition to offer a range of visions from a few talented French filmmakers that compete with the current climate to reconcile us with the present. And because tomorrow is built on the foundations of today, the fifib will support the winner in the writing of his next project during a residency at the Mauriac Chalet in Saint Symphorien*.

Hommage Rainer Werner Fassbinder

SIDE A / SIDE B

Rainer Werner Fassbinder would have been 70 this year and would also have probably prolonged the list of forty films, television films and TV series that he leaves behind - his "home" as he called it, both built on his tumultuous life as well as the history of Germany. As a tribute, the challenge of the fifib this year is to go through this huge artwork and put it into perspective. Melodrama, women, love, sulfur, politics … which path should be chosen? We chose the mirror, a recurrent symbol in RWF's pieces of art, in order to make the shapes interact. The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant (RWF's film, adapted from his own play) / Thierry De Peretti, who staged the play this year with Valeria Bruni Tedeschi's help. The Third Generation / Une jeunesse allemande or, as you may say, fiction against documentary. Side A, side B, to understand better the director news: the dominant/dominated relation in a couple and in society, as well as the chains we all dream of breaking. But for what? Bonus: Fassbinder as an actor in its total excess, in the skit Germany in Autumn.
